The Debian operating system has been successfully installed on the real Malta board equipped with the 125 MHz 4Kc CPU, 256 MB of physical memory (the maximum available for the Malta platform due to its architecture), and an 80 GB IDE hard drive. Since its YAMON firmware supported SREC (binary in text format by Motorola) images to load via TFTP protocol, one has been prepared using the `initramfs' support in the Linux kernel configuration. Namely, the Debian installer's `initrd.gz' file was downloaded from the Debian archives, unpacked, and named /tmp/initrd.cpio, then this path was set in the kernel configuration. The resulting image ready to use for installation (both on 4Kc and 24Kc boards thanks to backward compatibility of the Release 2 CPUs) has been built using the target `vmlinux.srec' and is currently available via the following link:
