Henkilökortti on Mac OS X
Apr. 15th, 2011 04:13 pmSCM Microsystems' SCR3310 v2.0 smart card reader (which can be purchased, for instance, in Verkkokauppa store for 25 €) supports Finnish ID Etu smart cards issued by Finnish Police Offices. The cards are mostly used just as an ID document, but can also be used for on-line authentication, theoretically the most convenient way.
While support for Microsoft Windows operating systems is provided officially via mPollux DigiSign Client, the way to use electronic authentication in other operating systems like Mac OS X and GNU/Linux is not so obvious.
In order to enable those certificates on smart cards in Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard's Web browser, Safari, as well as other applications working through Keychain Access, one can install one of the latest OpenSC software builds. At least, OpenSC revision 5338 managed to automatically attach the corresponding dynamic keychain in Keychain Access in Mac OS X 10.6.7.
The list of services supporting this type of authentication is currently quite limited and includes Post, Local Register, and Tax (Fin. Posti, Maistraatti, and Verotoimisto, respectively) Offices among some others, although the legal right supporting the Finnish ID cards with electronic certificates is fixed in corresponding Finnish law aimed to provide security on-line.
